Tsunami Unleashed

It was in the december of 2004, when Tsunami struck India and parts of Tamilnadu was affected.. It was supposed to be the worst nightmare for the people there.. We as Aid-India's volunteers were asked to jump into action.

So we planned to spend the forthcoming Pongal holidays in a useful way. Myself and Aswin (a very good friend of mine) planned to go in bike, just for the sake of fun n thrill and as well as help the people there at the same time. Soon darkness fell, since we started late and even we felt tired driving all the way to cudaloor. We had to take a de-tour and stop at a lovely place called kuuvathoor, 38kms off mahabalipuram. We spent the night there, and had loads of fun with our fellow colleagues. Soon the next morning we had to get back to business..

There's no sort of basic amenities in that place and so we had to fetch water, take bath ofcourse and start to another place, but this time in a van. So i left my bike there. And the bottomline is i happened to drive the van for sometime. Thanks to the driver. And then when night fell we all went to the roof-top of the van and travelled on the scenic ECR road... I could never forget all those moments in my life.

We spent few days there distributing rice, some of us learnt how to make tents and the others distributed medicines. Finally we had to get back home because the pongal holidays came to an end and so back to college. So we ended our trip, with a happy heart that the holidays were spent usefully.

When i look back now, the memories seem to be still fresh in my mind.

Their smiles are Genuine...

I, Danny work for Alcatel and many a times i used to worry that i'd be missing all things which we used to do during my college days... And one among those small things which i mentioned that gives me pleasure and fun was to bring smiles, both in the face and in the hearts of underprivileged.

And to my surprise i came to know about an association called "WELCOM" in our very own company. Many thanks to Prasanna, who told me about that and also to the team of Welcom. And that's how i joined and that's how the story goes...
And we planned to visit orpahanges for this Diwali. As we planned we started in an orphange at Tambaram.. It was a dark and cold day and i happen to get drenched in rain and finally managed to get to the appointed place at the right time. Soon everyone gathered there with Sweets, Crakers, Sports stuff and so on.. The kids were so delighted and they thanked us by singing songs... I was so happy seeing the smiles in the faces of these kids..

Hats off to everyone in Welcome for having spared their precious time and coming all the way from various far-off places, just to spend sometime with those kids..
